Celebrate Freedom! #Juneteenth

On January 1, 1883 President Abraham Lincoln signed the slavery emancipation proclamation ending slavery in the United States of America. However, this didn’t turn out to be the case everywhere. Plantation owners in Texas did not inform the African Americans working as slaves. It was over 2 years later on June 19, 1885 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston Texas and informed them of their new sense of freedom. This is why we, the black culture, celebrate today as our true independence day. Happy Juneteenth ✊🏿
